JEFFREY ELMONT BIO

Jeffrey Elmont is a filmmaker of Dutch and Surinamese descent. He first graduated from the Netherlands Film and Television Academy with a B.A. in Film Editing. Shortly afterwards, he directed the short films, “My People” and “Duister en licht,” which were both awarded Best Short Film by the Netherlands Film Festival.

This recognition motivated Jeffrey to challenge himself as a filmmaker. Consequently, he went out and made the first-ever narrative film about street soccer, entitled “League of Legends,” starring soccer legend, Edgar Davids. The film successfully raised the profile of the sport all over Europe and was selected for the 2004 Berlin Short Film Festival, AFI Fest in 2005, and the European Film Festival in 2007. In 2011, “League of Legends” will be distributed worldwide by Shorts International.

Because of the promise shown in his short films, Jeffrey received the prestigious Prins Bernards Scholarship to pursue his MFA in Directing at the American Film Institute (AFI) Conservatory in Los Angeles. His AFI thesis film, “The Second Half” premiered at the 2009 Pan African Film Festival and won the Best Student Film award at the 2009 Hollywood Black Film Festival and the 2009 SoCal Film Festival. After AFI, Jeffrey was discovered by Jeff Panzer, a legend in the music industry, who had previously worked with The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, and Cash Money Records. Elmont’s work in the music industry has included video collaborations with artists such as JoJo, Flo Rida, ONYX, J. McCoy, Brisco, J. Lewis, and rap star, Lil Wayne. Jeffrey also worked on the Adidas music video, “Fast Don’t Lie,” starring NBA superstars, Dwight Howard and Derrick Rose, and featuring actor, Ken Jeong (“The Hangover”), as Slim Chin.

Most recently, he directed his latest short film “Junior” starring Larry Gilliard Jr. (exp. The Wire, Gangs of New York and The Machinist). Currently, Elmont is also in post-production on his first narrative feature, “Body Language,” which will be released fall 2011. This multi-million dollar European production will be the first-ever Lowlands dance movie. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1297139/
